If you own a business or an organization, you’ll understand how tough it can be to stand out from the crowd in this overcrowded online world. Your website can be seamless and your services unheard of, but without the proper marketing and management tools, it will remain just that – unheard of.

That’s why a lot of businesses are using online tools like Google My Business. If you’re not already signed up to it, keep reading and see if you become tempted to join the movement!

What is Google My Business?

Google My Business is a simple tool that’s designed to help businesses and organizations manage their online presence across Google’s search engine – and best of all, it’s free! You can manage how your business looks and performs in all areas of the search engine, such as Maps, the Knowledge Graph, Google+ and organic search results.

Businesses can sign up online and then verify and edit their business information. Important information includes opening hours, a working website link and a physical address. You can also add photos to your listing – Google says that businesses that add photos to their listings receive 42% more requests for driving requests on Google Maps and 35% more clicks through to their website than businesses that don’t.

Google My Business enhances customer interactions by allowing you to review and respond to comments and queries in real-time. It also allows you to see how people searched for your business, and track further progress. It’s a tool that can help businesses of all sizes understand and expand their online presence.

How Can It Help Improve My Local SEO?

Google My Business can help improve local search rankings by making your business easier to locate online. How your business looks and performs on Google is determined by a number of factors, but the main three are:

  • Relevance
  • Distance
  • Prominence

Your business will rank highly if it clearly fits what the person is searching for, if you are in close proximity to the searcher, and if you have a decent amount of reviews or links back to your website. No-one likes a stagnant site, so it’s important to keep adding new content. Google keeps an eye on updates!

Once it’s performing well on Google’s search engine, there are a few ways to maintain your prime spot. First, keep all information accurate and verifiable. Second, provide as much data as possible – don’t leave anything blank! And third, always keep your data up to date. Have an active online presence and keeping calling for attention.

Businesses are constantly evolving, but by remaining consistent in monitoring changes and updates, your business can keep tasting success. According to the 2017 edition of Moz’ Local Search Ranking Factors Survey, Google My Business is the biggest driver of local SEO success. If you want to sign up, you can do so here.
